IRA Charitable Distributions
The IRS allows eligible IRA owners age 70 ½ or older to make up to $100,000 in tax-free gifts from traditional Individual Retirement Accounts or Roth IRAs directly to charitable organizations such as Center for Independent Thought (CIT), through qualified charitable distributions known as QCDs.
For donors 73 and up, the distribution counts towards their required minimum distribution (RMD) for the current tax year and may help reduce their Adjusted Gross Income (AGI).
Charitable contributions from an IRA must go directly to a public charity such as CIT.
Distributions can only be made from traditional IRAs or Roth IRAs. Charitable donations from 403(b) plans, 401(k) plans, pension plans, and other retirement plans are ineligible. Distributions must be made directly from the IRA trustee to CIT or another non-profit before December 31 to qualify for the current tax year. You must receive an acknowledgment from CIT or other charity for each rollover contribution.
If you are interested in supporting CIT with a QCD, your plan administrator will need the following information:
Legal name: Center for Independent Thought
Federal Tax ID Number [EIN]: 52-0945376
Mailing address: 50 Monument Road, Suite 102, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004-1706
This information is provided for explanatory purposes. CIT does not offer legal or financial advice. We recommend that you seek advice from your financial advisor or tax professional prior to making a charitable rollover as personal circumstances can have a significant impact on whether charitable rollovers are advantageous.
